==History==

The township served [Fountains Abbey](/source/Fountains_Abbey) with [flax](/source/flax), with monastery paths leading along Tang Beck, a tributary of the [River Nidd](/source/River_Nidd), still in existence. The parish is west of [Harrogate](/source/Harrogate). It includes part of the US intelligence-gathering base at [RAF Menwith Hill](/source/RAF_Menwith_Hill).
