**Felipe Pardo y Aliaga** (11 June 1806, [Lima](/source/Lima) – 24 December 1868, Lima) was a [Peruvian](/source/Peru) poet, satirist, playwright, lawyer and politician.[1]

## Biography

A member of Lima's aristocratic elite, his father was Manuel Pardo Ribadeneira, *[oidor](/source/Oidor)* of the [Real Audiencia](/source/Real_Audiencia) of [Lima](/source/Lima), and his mother was Mariana de Aliaga y Borda, daughter of the 2nd [Marquise of Fuente Hermosa de Miranda](https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marquesado_de_Fuente_Hermosa_de_Miranda).

He was, along with [Manuel Ascencio Segura](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Manuel_Ascencio_Segura&action=edit&redlink=1), the most important representative of early Republican Peruvian literature. After independence he participated in political affairs, defending conservative causes. He became a diplomat, representing Peru in [Chile](/source/List_of_ambassadors_of_Peru_to_Chile) and a minister in the cabinet of presidents [Felipe Santiago Salaverry](/source/Felipe_Santiago_Salaverry), [Manuel Ignacio de Vivanco](/source/Manuel_Ignacio_de_Vivanco) and [Ramón Castilla](/source/Ram%C3%B3n_Castilla).

Pardo married Petronila de Lavalle y Cabrero, daughter of the 2nd [Count of Premio Real](https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Condado_de_Premio_Real). He was father of [Manuel Justo Pardo Lavalle](/source/Manuel_Justo_Pardo_Lavalle) and grandfather of [José Pardo y Barreda](/source/Jos%C3%A9_Pardo_y_Barreda), presidents of the Republic.
