==Academic career==
Fayyazuddin joined [Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission](/source/Pakistan_Atomic_Energy_Commission) (PAEC) in 1962 where he worked under the guidance of professor [Abdus Salam](/source/Abdus_Salam)<ref name=ICTP/> and continued his research on the [cosmic ray](/source/cosmic_ray) [mu-meson](/source/mu-meson)s. He undertook postdoctoral research at the [Enrico Fermi Institute](/source/Enrico_Fermi_Institute) at the [University of Chicago](/source/University_of_Chicago) from 1966 to 1968.<ref name=NCP/> At the institute, Fayyaz, [Faheem Hussain](/source/Faheem_Hussain), Riazuddin, and Peter Rotteli, formed "The Relativity Group", a team of young research scientists in [special relativity](/source/special_relativity). In 1968, when the Institute of Physics was established at the [University of Islamabad](/source/University_of_Islamabad) (now Quaid-i-Azam University), the scientists eagerly returned to [Pakistan](/source/Pakistan). In 1972, he returned to the Institute of Physics of Quaid-e-Azam University.
