# Fay Washington

**Lafayette Washington** (January 26, 1915 – April 11, 1975) was an American [Negro league](/source/Negro_league) [pitcher](/source/Pitcher) in the 1940s.

A native of [Alma, Arkansas](/source/Alma,_Arkansas), Washington made his Negro leagues debut in 1940 with the [St. Louis–New Orleans Stars](/source/St._Louis%E2%80%93New_Orleans_Stars). He went on to play for the [Birmingham Black Barons](/source/Birmingham_Black_Barons) and [Cincinnati Clowns](/source/Cincinnati_Clowns), and finished his career in 1946 with the [Seattle Steelheads](/source/Seattle_Steelheads).[1][2] Washington died in [Chicago, Illinois](/source/Chicago,_Illinois) in 1975 at age 60.
