# Farr Bay

**Farr Bay** is a bay 7 miles (11 km) wide on the coast of [Antarctica](/source/Antarctica), lying just east of [Helen Glacier](/source/Helen_Glacier_(Antarctica)). It was discovered in November 1912 by the [Western Base party](/source/Western_Base_party) of the [Australasian Antarctic Expedition](/source/Australasian_Antarctic_Expedition) under [Mawson](/source/Mawson). In some early reports the feature was called "Depot Bay". It was later named by Mawson for Dr. [C.C. Farr](/source/C.C._Farr) of [New Zealand](/source/New_Zealand), a member of the Expedition Advisory Committee.[1]
