# Farmington, Tennessee

**Farmington** is an [unincorporated community](/source/Unincorporated_area#United_States) in [Marshall County](/source/Marshall_County,_Tennessee), in the [U.S. state](/source/U.S._state) of [Tennessee](/source/Tennessee).[1] The community is concentrated around the intersection of [U.S. Route 31](/source/U.S._Route_31_in_Tennessee) and [State Route 64](/source/Tennessee_State_Route_64) west of [Shelbyville](/source/Shelbyville,_Tennessee) and east of [Lewisburg](/source/Lewisburg,_Tennessee).

## History

A post office called Farmington was established in 1836, and remained in operation until 1902.[2] Farmington was so named for its location in a farming district.[3]

The community witnessed the [Battle of Farmington](/source/Battle_of_Farmington,_Tennessee) of 1863, which resulted in a Union victory.[4]
