**Faridpur-4** is a constituency represented in the [Jatiya Sangsad](/source/Jatiya_Sangsad) (National Parliament) of [Bangladesh](/source/Bangladesh). Since 6 August 2024, the constituency remains vacant.

## Boundaries

The constituency encompasses [Bhanga](/source/Bhanga_Upazila) and [Charbhadrasan](/source/Charbhadrasan_Upazila) upazilas, and all but one [union parishad](/source/Union_parishad) of [Sadarpur Upazila](/source/Sadarpur_Upazila): Krishnapur.[2][3]

## History

The constituency was created for the first general elections in newly independent Bangladesh, held in 1973.

Ahead of the [2008 general election](/source/2008_Bangladeshi_general_election), the [Election Commission](/source/Bangladesh_Election_Commission) redrew constituency boundaries to reflect population changes revealed by the [2001 Bangladesh census](/source/2001_Bangladesh_census).[4] The 2008 redistricting altered the boundaries of the constituency.[5]

[Abdur Razzaq](/source/Abdur_Razzaq_(politician%2C_born_1942)) stood for two seats in the 2001 general election: Faridpur-4 and [Shariatpur-3](/source/Shariatpur-3). After winning both, he chose to represent the latter and quit the former, triggering a by-election. Chowdhury Akmal Ibne Yusuf was elected in a January 2002 by-election.[15]

Mosharaf Hossain died in August 1999.[17] His widow, Saleha Mosharraf, was elected in an October by-election.[18][19]
