**Famagusta Bay** ([Greek](/source/Greek_language): Κόλπος της Αμμοχώστου, [Turkish](/source/Turkish_language): *Mağusa Körfezi*) is the easternmost body of water that is formed by the [Karpasia peninsula](/source/Karpasia_peninsula) and [Protaras](/source/Protaras). It is named after the city of [Famagusta](/source/Famagusta), which lies almost right in the middle of the bay. The ancient city-state of [Salamis](/source/Salamis%2C_Cyprus) also is found on the bay, north of Famagusta. It is known for the best sandy beaches in [Cyprus](/source/Cyprus), which stretch for miles.[1]
