**Falling A Records** is a British [Essex, England](/source/Essex,_England)-based [independent record label](/source/Independent_record_label), founded in the late 1970s by [Barry Lamb](/source/Barry_Lamb) and [Peter Ashby](/source/Peter_Ashby_(musician)).,[1] born out of the [D.I.Y cassette movement](/source/D.I.Y_cassette_movement). It owned a shop in [Clacton-on-Sea](/source/Clacton-on-Sea) which sold new and second hand records, distributed [fanzines](/source/Fanzine) such as [New Crimes](/source/New_Crimes), [Vague](/source/Vague_(fanzine)), [Vox](/source/Vox_(fanzine)), [Flipside](/source/Flipside_(fanzine)), [Juniper beri-beri](/source/Juniper_beri-beri), [Blam!](/source/Blam!_(fanzine)), and D.I.Y magazines/[comics](/source/Comic_book) including the very first copies of *[Viz](/source/Viz_(comic))*.[1] It also distributed leaflets for various causes such as "anti-[apartheid](/source/Apartheid)" and "anti-[vivisection](/source/Vivisection)", music and politics being interlinked at the time.

It had a roster of several bands on its own label, such as [the insane picnic](/source/The_insane_picnic) *(sic)*,[1] Standing Ovation and [Spasmodic Caress](/source/Spasmodic_Caress), as well as cassettes and some vinyl it distributed for other D.I.Y cassette labels including [Cause for Concern](/source/Cause_for_Concern), [Subway](/source/Subway_(cassette_label)), [Adventures in Reality](/source/Adventures_in_Reality), [Music for Midgets](/source/Music_for_Midgets), [Third Mind](/source/Third_Mind) and [Colortapes](/source/Colortapes). Many notable bands were distributed by Falling A, including [The Cleaners from Venus](/source/Martin_Newell_(musician)) featuring [Martin Newell](/source/Martin_Newell_(musician)), [the Modern Art](/source/The_Modern_Art), [Attrition](/source/Attrition_(band)), [The Pastels](/source/The_Pastels), [The Membranes](/source/The_Membranes) and [Wavis O'Shave](/source/Wavis_O'Shave) (also known as Foffo Spearjig). Some exclusive material was recorded for Falling A by The Cleaners from Venus and Foffo Spearjig among others.

In 1985, the [cassette culture](/source/Cassette_culture) was threatening the fabric of the established music industry, and Falling A's profile was such that it received the largest write up in the annual *Music Week* directory of UK record labels,[2] even more words than [EMI](/source/EMI).

The label is still in existence as of July 2021. It is currently reissuing back catalogue on CD while releasing new music and creating a vast archival resource from all the memorabilia, ephemera and past product in its vaults.
