**Fabio Virgili** (born 26 April 1986) is an Italian former professional footballer who played as a [goalkeeper](/source/Goalkeeper_(association_football)).

## Club career

Born in [Terni](/source/Terni), Umbria, Virgili started his professional career at [Emilia–Romagna](/source/Emilia%E2%80%93Romagna) club [Parma](/source/Parma_F.C.). In the summer of 2005, he left the [Primavera Youth Team](/source/Campionato_Nazionale_Primavera)[1] and joined [Serie C1](/source/Serie_C1) side [Napoli](/source/S.S.C._Napoli) in a four-year [co-ownership](/source/Co-ownership_(football)) deal, for a peppercorn fee of €500;[2] he won the league title with the club as an unused squad member, earning promotion to [Serie B](/source/Serie_B). In June 2006, he was bought back by Parma for €50,000[2] and became the club's third goalkeeper behind [Luca Bucci](/source/Luca_Bucci) and [Alfonso De Lucia](/source/Alfonso_De_Lucia). He made his single appearance for the club that season in the second leg of the [Coppa Italia](/source/2006%E2%80%9307_Coppa_Italia) quarter-final, in which Parma drew 2–2 with [A.S. Roma](/source/A.S._Roma), who won 4–3 on aggregate and went on to win the competition. In the next season, he was the backup of Bucci and [Nicola Pavarini](/source/Nicola_Pavarini), along with [Radek Petr](/source/Radek_Petr) and Eros Corradini.

In July 2008, he joined [Carpenedolo](/source/A.C._Carpenedolo) along with Parma team-mate [Thomas Som](/source/Thomas_Som).[3] Although he played as a regular starter for the [Lega Pro Seconda Divisione](/source/Lega_Pro_Seconda_Divisione) side, he joined hometown club [Sporting Terni](/source/A.S.D._Sporting_Terni) in August 2009.[4]

On 19 August 2010, he was signed by [Paganese](/source/Paganese_Calcio_1926).[5] The following season he was signed by [Ternana Calcio](/source/Ternana_Calcio), as the backup of [Stefano Ambrosi](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Stefano_Ambrosi&action=edit&redlink=1), along with [Carlo Camilli](/source/Carlo_Camilli).

In the summer of 2012 he left [Ternana Calcio](/source/Ternana_Calcio) and joined [Botev Vratsa](/source/POFC_Botev_Vratsa) in the Bulgarian Second Division, but he never played for the club, and in March 2013 he returned in Italy to play with [Narnese](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Narnese_Calcio&action=edit&redlink=1).

## International career

Virgili was an unused member of [Italy U20 team](/source/Italy_national_under-20_football_team) at [2005 FIFA World Youth Championship](/source/2005_FIFA_World_Youth_Championship). Along with [Daniele Padelli](/source/Daniele_Padelli), they were [Emiliano Viviano](/source/Emiliano_Viviano)'s backup. He was the first choice goalkeeper at [2003 UEFA European Under-17 Football Championship](/source/2003_UEFA_European_Under-17_Football_Championship), ahead [Giacomo Bindi](/source/Giacomo_Bindi). He also capped at [2005 UEFA European Under-19 Football Championship elite qualification](/source/2005_UEFA_European_Under-19_Football_Championship_elite_qualification), ahead [Davide Petrachi](/source/Davide_Petrachi).
