**Free Range Routing** or **FRRouting** or **FRR** is a [network routing](/source/Network_routing) [software suite](/source/Software_suite) running on [Unix-like](/source/Unix-like) platforms, particularly [Linux](/source/Linux), [Solaris](/source/Solaris_(operating_system)), [OpenBSD](/source/OpenBSD), [FreeBSD](/source/FreeBSD) and [NetBSD](/source/NetBSD). It was created as a [fork](/source/Fork_(software_development)) from [Quagga](/source/Quagga_(software)), which itself was a fork of [GNU Zebra](/source/GNU_Zebra). FRRouting is distributed under the terms of the [GNU General Public License v2](/source/GNU_GPLv2) (GPL2).

FRR provides implementations of the following protocols:

## History

FRRouting broke away from the free routing software Quagga. Several Quagga contributors, including [Cumulus Networks](/source/Cumulus_Networks), [6WIND](/source/6WIND), and BigSwitch Networks, citing frustration about the pace of development, decided to fork the software and form their own community.[2]
