==Playing career==
As a schoolboy, Meiring represented {{Rut|North Eastern Cape}} at 1984-1986 [Craven Week](/source/Craven_Week) tournament after which he was selected for the [South African Schools](/source/South_Africa_national_under-18_rugby_union_team) team. He made his senior provincial debut in 1990 and played provincial rugby for {{rut|Eastern Province}} and {{rut|Northern Transvaal}}.  In 1994 he toured with the [Springboks to New Zealand](/source/1994_South_Africa_rugby_union_tour_of_New_Zealand).
