**Eyebrook Reservoir** (or **Eye Brook Reservoir**) is a 201.3-hectare (497-acre) [reservoir](/source/Reservoir) and biological [Site of Special Scientific Interest](/source/Site_of_Special_Scientific_Interest) which straddles the border between [Leicestershire](/source/Leicestershire) and [Rutland](/source/Rutland) in central England. The closest towns are [Corby](/source/Corby) and [Uppingham](/source/Uppingham).[1][2]

The reservoir was formed by the damming of the [Eye Brook](/source/Eye_Brook). It was built between 1937 and 1940 by [Stewarts & Lloyds](/source/Stewarts_%26_Lloyds) (supervised by [Geoffrey Binnie](/source/Geoffrey_Binnie) of Binnie & Partners)[3][4] to supply water to its Corby steel works, operated by subsidiary company **Corby (Northants) and District Water Company**.[5] During the [Second World War](/source/Second_World_War) it was used in May 1943 as a practice site for the [Dambuster](/source/Operation_Chastise) raids, standing in for the [Möhne Reservoir](/source/M%C3%B6hne_Reservoir); a plaque commemorates this.[5][6][7]

The reservoir is an important site for wintering wildfowl, such as wigeon, teal, mallard and pochard. Other habitats are marsh, mudflats, grassland, broad-leaved woodland and plantations.[8] Other species reported from the reservoir include [osprey](/source/Osprey), [smew](/source/Smew), [dunlin](/source/Dunlin) and [European golden plover](/source/European_golden_plover).[9] In passage periods scarcer species can be attracted to the reservoir's shores and these regularly include [curlew sandpiper](/source/Curlew_sandpiper), [ruff](/source/Ruff_(bird)) and [spotted redshank](/source/Spotted_redshank) among the expected waders. [Vagrants](/source/Vagrancy_(biology)) which have occurred include seabirds such a [Leach's petrel](/source/Leach's_petrel) and [Northern gannet](/source/Northern_gannet), as well as [squacco heron](/source/Squacco_heron), [black-crowned night heron](/source/Black-crowned_night_heron) [American wigeon](/source/American_wigeon), [black-winged pratincole](/source/Black-winged_pratincole), [killdeer](/source/Killdeer) and a variety of other species, mostly associated with wetlands.[10]

There is no public access to the reservoir, which is reserved for a trout fishery,[11] but it can be viewed from a public footpath which runs along part of the eastern side.[2]

Eyebrook Reservoir is a popular trout fishing venue.[12] The reservoir is regularly stocked with triploid [rainbow trout](/source/Rainbow_trout) and is home to a native [brown trout](/source/Brown_trout) population.[13] Fly fishing for [pike](/source/Esox_lucius) also takes place at the reservoir.[13]
