# Exostyles

***Exostyles*** is a genus of [flowering plants](/source/Flowering_plant) in the legume family, [Fabaceae](/source/Fabaceae). It belongs to subfamily [Faboideae](/source/Faboideae). It includes four species native to Brazil and Suriname.[1] The species primarily inhabit around bodies of water, especially the [Amazon River](/source/Amazon_River) and the east coast of [South America](/source/South_America). The Genus is charactarized by alternate leaflets, imparipinnate leaves, persistent stipules and stipels, 10 free stamens, zygomorphic flowers, basifixed anthers, and a berry-like legume fruit.[2][3]
