The **Exceptional Service Medallion** is a [civilian decoration](/source/Awards_and_decorations_of_the_United_States_government) of the United States government. It is awarded by the [Central Intelligence Agency](/source/Central_Intelligence_Agency) in recognition of "an employee's injury or death resulting from service in a hazardous area."[1] It was previously known as the *Exceptional Service Emblem*.
