==Life and career==
Eva Irgl was born in [Šempeter](/source/%C5%A0empeter_pri_Gorici) near [Nova Gorica](/source/Nova_Gorica) in western Slovenia, then part of [former Yugoslavia](/source/former_Yugoslavia). She was the daughter of an elementary schoolmaster. She spent her childhood in [Vipava, Slovenia](/source/Vipava%2C_Slovenia). She finished the grammar school in [Ajdovščina](/source/Ajdov%C5%A1%C4%8Dina) and studied [theology](/source/theology) at the [University of Ljubljana](/source/University_of_Ljubljana). During her studies, she had passed an audition for the [Slovenian national television](/source/RTV_Slovenija). She had hosted a TV show for three years and assisted in a morning programme. She also wrote columns for the [Mag magazine](/source/Mag_magazine), which had at the time a [right of centre](/source/right_of_centre) editorial policy.

In the [2004 parliamentary elections](/source/2004_Slovenian_parliamentary_election), she was elected to the Slovenian National Assembly on the list of the [Slovenian Democratic Party](/source/Slovenian_Democratic_Party). She was re-elected in [2008](/source/2008_Slovenian_parliamentary_election), [2011](/source/2011_Slovenian_parliamentary_election), [2014](/source/2014_Slovenian_parliamentary_election), [2018](/source/2018_Slovenian_parliamentary_election) and [2022](/source/2022_Slovenian_parliamentary_election)
