Not to be confused with [ethanol](/source/Ethanol) or [Vinyl alcohol](/source/Vinyl_alcohol).

**Ethynol** (or **hydroxyacetylene**, **ethynyl alcohol**) is an [alkyne](/source/Alkyne)–[alcohol](/source/Alcohol_(chemistry)) ([ynol](/source/Ynol)) with the [formula](/source/Chemical_formula) C2H2O or CHCHOH. It is the much-less-stable [tautomer](/source/Tautomer) of [ethenone](/source/Ethenone).

At low temperature in a [solid argon matrix](/source/Matrix_isolation) it is possible to tautomerise ethenone to form ethynol.[2][3]
