# Estevia

***Estevia*** is a genus of fossil [formicine](/source/Formicine) ants containg two species known from [Fushun amber](/source/Fushun_amber). It was originally described in 2002 by Chinese paleoentomologist [Youchong Hong](/source/Youchong_Hong) ([洪友崇](https://zh.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E6%B4%AA%E5%8F%8B%E5%B4%87)) as *Wilsonia*, an honorific of biologist [E. O. Wilson](/source/E._O._Wilson),[1] however entomologist [Brian Fisher](/source/Brian_Fisher_(entomologist)) found that the name was a [junior secondary homonym](/source/Junior_secondary_homonym) of the bird genus *[Wilsonia](/source/Wilsonia_(bird))* described in 1838 and designated *Estevia* as a replacement name in 2026 in honor of Brazilian myrmecologist [Flávia Esteves](/source/Fl%C3%A1via_Esteves).[2]

As of 2026, the genus includes one species officially designated within the genus and one implied.[3][1][2]
