# Estádio do Restelo

The **Estádio do Restelo** (*English: *Restelo Stadium**) is a [multi-purpose stadium](/source/Multi-purpose_stadium) in [Lisbon](/source/Lisbon), Portugal. The stadium has a seated capacity of 19,856 people and was built in 1956, in an old stone quarry. It is situated behind the [Jerónimos Monastery](/source/Jer%C3%B3nimos_Monastery) in the Lisbon parish of [Belém](/source/Bel%C3%A9m_(Lisbon)).

It is currently used mostly for [football](/source/Football_(soccer)) matches, by [second division](/source/Liga_Portugal_2) club [Clube de Futebol Os Belenenses](/source/C.F._Os_Belenenses), but also stages musical performances. The Pope [John Paul II](/source/John_Paul_II) has also celebrated a mass there attended by more than 100,000 people.

The inauguration game was against [Sporting CP](/source/Sporting_CP), and Belenenses won by 2–1. The first international match was against [Stade de Reims](/source/Stade_de_Reims), 2-0 for Belenenses. Finally, the first game counting for the Portuguese First Division was a Belenenses 5-1 [Vitória de Setúbal](/source/Vit%C3%B3ria_F.C.).

## Concert history

The stadium can host concerts with standing room, bringing capacity to around 44,000 to 60,000.[3]

On July 6, 1996, [AC/DC](/source/AC/DC) performed at the stadium during their [Ballbreaker World Tour](/source/Ballbreaker_World_Tour).

On May 23, 2000, [American](/source/United_States) [hard rock](/source/Hard_rock) band [Pearl Jam](/source/Pearl_Jam) kicked off their [Binaural Tour](/source/Binaural_Tour) at the stadium, recording a live album of the performance.[4]

On October 4, 2000, [The Smashing Pumpkins](/source/The_Smashing_Pumpkins) played in the stadium during the Sacred and Profane Tour.[5]

[Queen + Paul Rodgers](/source/Queen_%2B_Paul_Rodgers) performed at the stadium during their [tour](/source/Queen_%2B_Paul_Rodgers_Tour) on 2 July 2005, being the first [Queen](/source/Queen_(band)) show in Portugal and the first stadium show in 19 years for the band.[6]

On 18 July 2009 [The Killers](/source/The_Killers), [Duffy](/source/Duffy_(singer)), [Mando Diao](/source/Mando_Diao), [Brandi Carlile](/source/Brandi_Carlile), [The Walkmen](/source/The_Walkmen) and Bettershell made the lineup for the Lisbon's 15th edition of [Super Bock Super Rock](/source/Super_Bock_Super_Rock) festival, held at the stadium.[7]

On 1 May 2019, [Metallica](/source/Metallica) performed at the stadium during their [WorldWired Tour](/source/WorldWired_Tour).

American rapper [Kendrick Lamar](/source/Kendrick_Lamar) and singer-songwriter [SZA](/source/SZA) co-headlined their [Grand National Tour](/source/Grand_National_Tour) at the stadium on July 27, 2025.[8]

Canadian act [The Weeknd](/source/The_Weeknd) is scheduled to perform on September 5 and 6, 2026, during the [After Hours Til Dawn Tour](/source/After_Hours_til_Dawn_Tour), with [Playboi Carti](/source/Playboi_Carti) as support.[9]

Other bands that have headlined the venue include [The Police](/source/The_Police), [Xutos & Pontapés](/source/Xutos_%26_Pontap%C3%A9s), [James](/source/James_(band)), [Radiohead](/source/Radiohead), and [Slipknot](/source/Slipknot_(band)).

## UEFA Women's Champions League Final

The stadium hosted the [2014 UEFA Women's Champions League Final](/source/2014_UEFA_Women's_Champions_League_Final). Also in 2019, a solidarity game was played there between the women's team of [Benfica](/source/S.L._Benfica_(women's_football)) and [Sporting CP](/source/Sporting_CP_(women's_football)), organised by the [Federação Portuguesa de Futebol](/source/Federa%C3%A7%C3%A3o_Portuguesa_de_Futebol) and Belenenses, with the revenues reverting to [Mozambique](/source/Mozambique), after [Cyclone Idai](/source/Cyclone_Idai). The game established the new record of a women's match in Portugal, having an attendance of 15 000 people.[citation needed]

## Curiosity

In 2011, the Portuguese soap opera, "Sedução" produced by [TVI](/source/Televis%C3%A3o_Independente) told the history of a fictional player of Belenenses and recorded some episodes at the stadium, including during game days.[citation needed]
