**Erwin Hauer** (January 18, 1926, [Vienna](/source/Vienna), Austria - December 22, 2017, [Branford, Connecticut](/source/Branford%2C_Connecticut)) was an [Austrian](/source/Austria)-born American [sculptor](/source/Sculptor) who studied first at [Vienna](/source/Vienna)'s Academy of Applied Arts and later under [Josef Albers](/source/Josef_Albers) at [Yale](/source/Yale).[1] Hauer was an early proponent of [modular constructivism](/source/Modular_constructivism) and an associate of [Norman Carlberg](/source/Norman_Carlberg). Like Carlberg, he was especially known for his [minimalist](/source/Minimalist), repetitive pieces in the 1950s and 1960s. [2]

According to ribabookshops.com, Hauer's sculptures are in many public collections, including those of the [Brooklyn Museum of Art](/source/Brooklyn_Museum_of_Art), the [Art Institute of Chicago](/source/Art_Institute_of_Chicago), the [Wadsworth Atheneum](/source/Wadsworth_Atheneum), the Museum of the [National Academy of Design](/source/National_Academy_of_Design), and others. Erwin Hauer was [Professor Emeritus](/source/Professor_Emeritus) at the [Yale University](/source/Yale_University) School of Art, where he taught from 1957 until 1990.
