At 17 Errol Draper followed his elder brother [Ron](/source/Ronald_Draper) into the [Eastern Province](/source/Eastern_Province_cricket_team) team in the 1951–52 season, taking 6 for 114 in the first innings of his debut [Currie Cup](/source/Currie_Cup_(cricket)) match.<ref>''[Wisden](/source/Wisden_Cricketers'_Almanack)'' 1953, p. 865.</ref> He played only once more for Eastern Province before following Ron to [Griqualand West](/source/Griqualand_West_cricket_team), where he played as a middle-order batsman and occasional left-arm spinner.
