**Erik Raymond Jean Alain Maris** (born 16 February 1964) is a French businessman, [racing driver](/source/Racing_driver) and [navigator](/source/Navigator).

## Business ventures

A Graduate of [HEC Paris](/source/HEC_Paris), Maris began working at [Morgan Stanley](/source/Morgan_Stanley) in 1988, before joining [Lazard](/source/Lazard) in 1991.[1] During his time at Lazard, Maris specialized in telecommunications and media and became the company's co-head of its consulting practice in late 2009,[2] but was demoted to managing partner the following June by [Kenneth M. Jacobs](/source/Kenneth_M._Jacobs).[1]

In 2010, Maris and [Jean-Marie Messier](/source/Jean-Marie_Messier) co-founded *Messier Maris et Associés*, an M&A advisory boutique first established in 2003 as *Messier Partners*.[3] His tenure at the company lasted until September 2020, when he left following several disagreements with Messier.[4][5] The following month, Maris joined Advent International, a private equity fund, as an advisory partner.[6] In late 2024, Maris joined [Perella Weinberg France](/source/Perella_Weinberg_Partners) as vice-chairman.[7][8]

## Sailing career

Maris was introduced to [sailing](/source/Sailing) in the late 1960s and competed in the [Tour de France à la voile](/source/Tour_de_France_%C3%A0_la_voile) as well as the [Admiral's Cup](/source/Admiral's_Cup) in 1987, before returning to the sport from 2002 to 2012.[9] Five years later, Maris resumed his sailing career as he entered the [GC32 Racing Tour](/source/GC32_Racing_Tour),[10] and still competes as of July 2025.[11]

## Racing career

Maris made his car racing debut in 2011, in the V de V Challenge Endurance VHC.[12][13] Two years later, Maris joined [OAK Racing](/source/OAK_Racing) to make his [FIA World Endurance Championship](/source/2013_FIA_World_Endurance_Championship) debut at the [6 Hours of Circuit of the Americas](/source/2013_6_Hours_of_Circuit_of_the_Americas) in LMP2.[14] The following year, Maris finished on the A6-Am podium of the [Dubai 24 Hour](/source/2014_Dubai_24_Hour) for [Spirit of Race](/source/AF_Corse),[15] before joining [IMSA Performance](/source/IMSA_Performance) for the rest of the year to compete in the LMGTE class of the [European Le Mans Series](/source/2014_European_Le_Mans_Series), driving a Porsche 997 GT3-RSR.[16] During 2014, Maris also raced at the [24 Hours of Le Mans](/source/2014_24_Hours_of_Le_Mans) with the same team in LMGTE Am.[17][18]

Maris secured his best LMP2 finish of 5th at Silverstone 2015 with [OAK Racing](/source/OAK_Racing).

Maris then returned to [OAK Racing](/source/OAK_Racing) and LMP2 competition for 2015, racing with them in the first three rounds of the [FIA World Endurance Championship](/source/2015_FIA_World_Endurance_Championship), including the [24 Hours of Le Mans](/source/2015_24_Hours_of_Le_Mans), where he placed eleventh.[19][20] A season in the LMP3 class of the [European Le Mans Series](/source/2016_European_Le_Mans_Series) and a third appearance at the [24 Hours of Le Mans](/source/2016_24_Hours_of_Le_Mans), for SO24! by Lombard Racing in LMP2, then ensued,[21][22] before returning to the French enduro for a fourth consecutive time, now with [Eurasia Motorsport](/source/Eurasia_Motorsport), in 2017.[23]

In 2018, Maris switched to [IDEC Sport](/source/IDEC_Sport_Racing) to race in select rounds of the [European Le Mans Series](/source/2018_European_Le_Mans_Series) in LMP2,[24] as well as joining Ebimotors to race in the LMGTE Am class of the [24 Hours of Le Mans](/source/2018_24_Hours_of_Le_Mans),[25] in which he finished sixth at the wheel of a Porsche 911 RSR.[26] Another part-time season in ELMS with IDEC Sport then followed in 2019,[27] during which he raced at the [Road to Le Mans](/source/2019_Road_to_Le_Mans) for [United Autosports](/source/United_Autosports) in LMP3, as well as the [24 Hours of Spa](/source/2019_24_Hours_of_Spa) for BMW-fielding [Boutsen Ginion](/source/Boutsen_Ginion_Racing).[28] Maris then made a one-off appearance in the following year's [Le Mans Cup](/source/2020_Le_Mans_Cup) for IDEC Sport in GT3,[29] and also raced for [EuroInternational](/source/EuroInternational) at the [24 Hours of Le Mans](/source/2020_24_Hours_of_Le_Mans) in LMP2,[30] before switching his attention to classic races.[31]
