**Eric Shawn** is an American [television news](/source/Television_news) anchor and [reporter](/source/Journalist) for [Fox News](/source/Fox_News), based in [Manhattan](/source/Media_in_New_York_City) alongside co-anchor [Arthel Neville](/source/Arthel_Neville).

## Early life and education

Shawn is the son of Gilbert Shawn and [Melba Rae](/source/Melba_Rae), an actress best known for her long-running role as Marge Bergman on *[Search for Tomorrow](/source/Search_for_Tomorrow)*. He graduated from [Trinity School](/source/Trinity_School_(New_York_City)) in New York City and [Georgetown University](/source/Georgetown_University) with a degree in [urban studies](/source/Urban_studies). Shawn had a cameo role as a reporter in the 1990 film *[Gremlins 2: The New Batch](/source/Gremlins_2%3A_The_New_Batch)*.

## Career

Shawn worked as a reporter for WNYC TV at NYC City Hall during the Mayor Koch Years and [WNYW](/source/WNYW) (FOX) and [WPIX](/source/WPIX) in New York before joining [Fox News](/source/Fox_News)' affiliate news service, Fox News Edge as the Fox Network Anchor and Correspondent. Shawn has covered many of the major national and international stories over the past few decades, including: the [Gulf War](/source/Gulf_War), the [1992 Clinton campaign](/source/Bill_Clinton_presidential_campaign%2C_1992), the Democratic and Republican national conventions, and the [O. J. Simpson murder case](/source/O._J._Simpson_murder_case) among many other breaking stories.[1]

In 2001, Mafia hitman [Frank Sheeran](/source/Frank_Sheeran) told Shawn that he shot labor leader [Jimmy Hoffa](/source/Jimmy_Hoffa) in a house in Detroit on July 30, 1975, and Shawn led the team that found blood evidence on that house's floor in 2004. Shawn's efforts led to the publication of the book *[I Heard You Paint Houses](/source/I_Heard_You_Paint_Houses)* and the 2019 film *[The Irishman](/source/The_Irishman)*. He hosted the documentary film *Riddle: The Search for James R. Hoffa* on the streaming service [Fox Nation](/source/Fox_Nation).

Shaw currently co-anchors the weekend programs of *America's News Headquarters* with [Arthel Neville](/source/Arthel_Neville), as well as serves as the Senior Correspondent for the network.

On September 11, 2025, Shawn disclosed he has been diagnosed with cancer, having been exposed to the [toxic dust](/source/Health_effects_arising_from_the_September_11_attacks#Toxic_dust) stemming from the [September 11 terrorist attacks](/source/September_11_attacks) near the [World Trade Center](/source/World_Trade_Center_(1973%E2%80%932001)).[2]
