Born on 10 August 1932 <ref>[Who's Who](/source/Who's_Who) 2008: London, [A & C Black](/source/A_%26_C_Black), 2008 {{ISBN|978-0-7136-8555-8}}</ref> and educated at the [University of Manitoba](/source/University_of_Manitoba) and the [University of Saskatchewan](/source/University_of_Saskatchewan), he was ordained in 1959.<ref>[Crockford's Clerical Directory](/source/Crockford's_Clerical_Directory)1975-76 Lambeth, Church House, 1975 {{ISBN|0-19-200008-X}}</ref> After a [curacy](/source/Curate) at All Saints’, [Winnipeg](/source/Winnipeg) he was [Priest in charge](/source/Priest_in_charge) at [Burns Lake](/source/Burns_Lake%2C_British_Columbia), and then [Masset, British Columbia](/source/Masset%2C_British_Columbia). Later he was [Vicar](/source/Vicar) of St Saviour’s, [Winnipeg](/source/Winnipeg) and then Rector of All Saints', Winnipeg and Canon of St. John's Cathedral in the same city. From 1976 he was a [professor](/source/professor) at the [College of Emmanuel and St Chad](/source/University_of_Saskatchewan_Academics), and later Vice-Principal.
