Historic group of molluscs

**Eogastropoda** was a previously used [taxonomic](/source/Taxonomy_(biology)) category of [snails](/source/Snail) or [gastropods](/source/Gastropod), a subclass which was erected by [Ponder](/source/Winston_Ponder) and [Lindberg](/source/David_R._Lindberg) in 1997. It was one of two great divisions (subclasses) of the [class](/source/Class_(biology)) [Gastropoda](/source/Gastropoda), the [snails](/source/Snail). The other subclass of gastropods was the [Orthogastropoda](/source/Orthogastropoda).

Eogastropoda were the more primitive of the two subclasses, representing a much older line of gastropods. This subclass contained all of the true [limpets](/source/Limpet).
