The **Empson River** is a stream in the [Canterbury](/source/Canterbury%2C_New_Zealand) Region of [New Zealand](/source/New_Zealand). It arises near [Grey Hill](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Grey_Hill&action=edit&redlink=1) in the [Hanmer Range](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Hanmer_Range&action=edit&redlink=1) and flows south into the [Waiau Uwha River](/source/Waiau_Uwha_River). The name is not official.
