She was raised in [Menlo Park, California](/source/Menlo_Park,_California), and attended [Menlo-Atherton High School](/source/Menlo-Atherton_High_School). Burt later attended [Stanford University](/source/Stanford_University), where she was a member of the [Stanford Cardinal women's soccer](/source/Stanford_Cardinal_women's_soccer) and tennis teams.[2][3] She took a hiatus from soccer in 1995 to focus on tennis, but returned to the sport the following season.[4] ## Career Burt played for [Foothill FC](/source/Foothill_FC) of the [Women's Premier Soccer League](/source/Women's_Premier_Soccer_League) while working in the tech industry.[5] She was selected in the 12th round of the [2000 WUSA Draft](/source/2000_WUSA_Draft) by the [Atlanta Beat](/source/Atlanta_Beat_(WUSA)) as the 96th overall selection.
