# Emem Essien

**Emem Peace Essien** (born 28 August 2001) is a Nigerian professional [women's football](/source/Women's_association_football) [forward](/source/Forward_(association_football)) who currently plays for [Kickstart FC](/source/Kickstart_FC_(women)) in the [Indian Women's League](/source/Indian_Women's_League).[1]

## Club career

After playing for clubs like [Ibom Angels](/source/Ibom_Angels_F.C.), [Sunshine Queens](/source/Sunshine_Queens_F.C.) and [Bayelsa Queens](/source/Bayelsa_Queens), Emem Essien joined [Edo Queens](/source/Edo_Queens) in 2021.[2][3] She was crucial to Edo Queens performance in the [2023–24](/source/2023%E2%80%9324_NWFL_Premiership) which saw them win the league and qualify for the [CAF Champions League](/source/2024_CAF_Women's_Champions_League) for the first time.[4] During that season, she scored 6 goals and was voted the season's Most Valuable Player.[5]

At the [qualifiers](/source/2024_CAF_Women's_Champions_League_WAFU_Zone_B_Qualifiers) for the [2024 CAF Champions League](/source/2024_CAF_Women's_Champions_League), she finished as the top scorer with 6 goals.[6] She further scored three goals at the main tournament; scoring at the group stage in wins over Ethiopian outfits [CBE](/source/CBE_F.C.) and [Mamelodi Sundowns](/source/Mamelodi_Sundowns_Ladies_F.C.),[7][8] where she won the Woman of the Match award the only goal in a loss against [TP Mazembe](/source/TP_Mazembe_(women)) in the semifinal.[9][2] Her performance that year made her get nominated for the 2024 CAF Interclub Player of the Year.[10]

The following season, she scored 7 goals in the [2024–25 NWFL](/source/2024%E2%80%9325_NWFL_Premiership), finishing as one of the top scorers.[11][5]

In 2025, she joined Indian club [Kickstart FC](/source/Kickstart_FC_(women)) after a short stint with [Bayelsa Queens](/source/Bayelsa_Queens).[12]

## National team career

In May 2025, she was called up for the [Nigeria national football team](/source/Nigeria_women's_national_football_team) in friendlies against [Cameroon](/source/Cameroon_women's_national_football_team).[13][14]

## Personal life

She comes from a family of nine children. She has declared her father to be her mentor.[1][2]
