'''Elwin Nelson "Doc" Romnes''' (January 1, 1907 – July 21, 1984) was an American [ice hockey](/source/ice_hockey) player and coach. He played professionally in the [National Hockey League](/source/National_Hockey_League) (NHL) with the [Chicago Black Hawks](/source/Chicago_Black_Hawks), [Toronto Maple Leafs](/source/Toronto_Maple_Leafs), and [New York Americans](/source/New_York_Americans) from 1930 to 1940. He won the [Lady Byng Trophy](/source/Lady_Byng_Trophy) in [1935–36](/source/1935%E2%80%9336_NHL_season) for sportsmanship and gentlemanly play, and with Chicago won the [Stanley Cup](/source/Stanley_Cup) twice, in [1934](/source/1934_Stanley_Cup_Finals) and [1938](/source/1938_Stanley_Cup_Finals).
Following his player career, Romnes was head coach of the [Michigan Tech Huskies](/source/Michigan_Tech_Huskies_men's_ice_hockey) from 1941 to 1945 (including two years when the program was suspended during [World War II](/source/World_War_II)), and the [Minnesota Golden Gophers](/source/Minnesota_Golden_Gophers_men's_ice_hockey) from 1947 until 1952.
