'''Elnadim''' (28 April 1994 – 14 January 2015) was an American-bred, British-trained [Thoroughbred](/source/Thoroughbred) racehorse and [sire](/source/sire_(horse)). After failing to win as a juvenile he developed into a high-class sprinter in 1997, winning four of his six races including the [Hopeful Stakes](/source/Hopeful_Stakes_(Great_Britain)) and the [Diadem Stakes](/source/Diadem_Stakes). In the following year he recorded his biggest success when he won the [Group One](/source/Group_races) [July Cup](/source/July_Cup). His subsequent form was disappointing and he was retired from racing in 2000. He stood as a breeding stallion in the United States, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand and had some success as a sire of winners. He died in 2015 at the age of twenty-one.

He was bred in Kentucky by [Shadwell Farm](/source/Shadwell_Farm), the breeding operation of his owner [Hamdan Al Maktoum](/source/Hamdan_bin_Rashid_Al_Maktoum). His sire Danzig, who ran only three times before his career was ended by injury, was a highly successful stallion who sired the winners of more than fifty [Grade I](/source/Graded_stakes_race)/[Group One](/source/Group_races) races. ===1996: two-year-old season===
On his racecourse debut, Elnadim started [11/10](/source/Fractional_odds) favourite for the Convivial [Maiden Stakes](/source/maiden_race) over six furlongs at [York Racecourse](/source/York_Racecourse) in August but finished fourth of the eight runners behind Indiscreet. In November he was made favourite for a similar event at [Newmarket Racecourse](/source/Newmarket_Racecourse) and finished second to the [Godolphin](/source/Godolphin_Racing) colt Kumait. Elnadim missed the spring of 1997 and made his first appearance of the season in a maiden race at [Pontefract Racecourse](/source/Pontefract_Racecourse) on 3 June. Starting the 1/2 favourite, he took the lead approaching the final furlong before drawing away in the closing stages to record his first success, beating Present Chance by four [lengths](/source/Horse_length). In July he contested a [handicap race](/source/Handicap_(horse_racing)) at Newmarket and finished second to Danetime from whom he was receiving four pounds. The winner went on to take the [Stewards' Cup](/source/Stewards'_Cup_(Great_Britain)) on his next appearance. Two weeks after his defeat at Newmarket, the colt carried top weight of 133 pounds to victory in a minor handicap at [Great Yarmouth Racecourse](/source/Great_Yarmouth_Racecourse). In August Elnadim was moved up in class for the Listed Hopeful Stakes over six furlongs at Newmarket. On 27 September, Elnadim was stepped up again in class for the [Group Two](/source/Group_races) Diadem Stakes at [Ascot Racecourse](/source/Ascot_Racecourse). He started 4/1 second choice in the betting behind the four-year-old Russian Revival (winner of the [Bentinck Stakes](/source/Bentinck_Stakes) and the [Dubai Duty Free Trophy](/source/World_Trophy)), whilst the other leading contenders were Dazzle ([Cherry Hinton Stakes](/source/Cherry_Hinton_Stakes)), Averti ([King George Stakes](/source/King_George_Stakes)) and Monaassib ([Prix de Ris-Orangis](/source/Prix_de_Ris-Orangis)). Elnadim began his third season in the [Duke of York Stakes](/source/Duke_of_York_Stakes) in May. He started favourite but after leading for most of the way he was overtaken inside the final furlong and beaten half a length by Bollin Joanne. In the [Temple Stakes](/source/Temple_Stakes) at [Sandown Park Racecourse](/source/Sandown_Park_Racecourse) later that month he was again the beaten favourite, finishing third to Bolshoi and Lochangel.
Despite his two defeats in spring, Elnadim was made 3/1 favourite when he lined up for the July Cup at Newmarket on 9 July. Kahal, Bolshoi, Bollin Joanne, Danetime, Russian Revival, Monaassib and Averti were again in opposition, whilst the other major contenders were [Tamarisk](/source/Tamarisk_(horse)), Bold Fact ([July Stakes](/source/July_Stakes)), Arkadian Hero ([Mill Reef Stakes](/source/Mill_Reef_Stakes)) and [Pas de Reponse](/source/Pas_de_Reponse). The runners split into separate groups across the wide Newmarket straight with Hills sending Elnadim into an early lead along the rail on the stands-side (the right hand side from the jockeys' viewpoint). He maintained his advantage throughout and pulled clear in the closing stages to win by two lengths from Tamarisk, who got the better of Danetime and Arkadian Hero in a three-way [photo finish](/source/photo_finish) for second. Elnadim failed to reproduce his Newmarket form in his two subsequent starts that year despite starting favourite on both occasions. After missing the whole of the 1999 season Elnadim was sent to the United States in 2000 to be trained by [Kiaran McLaughlin](/source/Kiaran_McLaughlin). He finished unplaced in allowance races at [Saratoga Race Course](/source/Saratoga_Race_Course) in August and [Belmont Park](/source/Belmont_Park) in September. On his final appearance he contested the [Nureyev Stakes](/source/Nureyev_Stakes) over five and a half furlongs at [Keeneland Racecourse](/source/Keeneland_Racecourse) in October. Elnadim was retired from racing to become a breeding [stallion](/source/stallion). After a season at Shadwell's base in Kentucky he returned to Europe in 2002 where he was based at the Derrinstown Stud in Ireland.
