**Ellison Litton Barber**[1] is an American journalist, correspondent for [NBC News](/source/NBC_News), and host of the [Netflix](/source/Netflix) true-crime video podcast “Allegedly with Ellison Barber.” [2]

She frequently reports from [conflict zones](/source/War) and contributes reporting to all NBC News platforms, including [NBC News](/source/NBC_News), [MSNBC](/source/MSNBC) and [NBC News Now](/source/Peacock_(streaming_service)).[3] Originally from [Atlanta](/source/Atlanta), [Georgia](/source/Georgia_(U.S._state)), she graduated from [Wofford College](/source/Wofford_College) with a [Bachelor of Arts](/source/Bachelor_of_Arts) in [English](/source/English_studies#English_major) in 2012.[4]

Barber spent months on the ground reporting on the [Russian invasion of Ukraine](/source/Russian_invasion_of_Ukraine)[5] and was among the first group of international correspondents to report on the [Gaza war](/source/Gaza_war) in 2023.[6][7]

## Career

Barber served as a general assignment reporter and the [Prince George's County](/source/Prince_George's_County%2C_Maryland) Deputy Bureau Chief for Washington's [CBS](/source/CBS) [affiliate](/source/Network_affiliate), [WUSA](/source/WUSA_(TV)).[8] At WUSA, Barber reported on an array of stories,[9][10][11] including the [2015 Washington, D.C., mass killing](/source/2015_Washington%2C_D.C.%2C_mass_killing) of the Savopoulos family and their housekeeper Veralicia Figueroa, the March 2016 U.S. Capitol lockdown,[12] and the protests following the shooting of Terrence Sterling.[13][14] While at WUSA, Barber interviewed [Washington Capitals](/source/Washington_Capitals)' star [Alexander Ovechkin](/source/Alexander_Ovechkin) during a blizzard.[15] The unintentional encounter went viral.[16][17][18]

### Fox News (2017-2020)

In April 2017, she joined [Fox News](/source/Fox_News) as a general assignment correspondent.[14][19]

In 2019, Barber reported on the [political turmoil in Venezuela](/source/Venezuelan_protests_(2014%E2%80%93present)) and the resulting [refugee](/source/Refugee) crisis in neighboring countries.[20][21] She and her crew were reporting on the Venezuela-Colombia border when gunfire erupted near the [Simón Bolívar International Bridge](/source/Sim%C3%B3n_Bol%C3%ADvar_International_Bridge)[22] and a thirty-minute shootout ensued.[23][24][25] Barber was also the first reporter for a U.S.-based English-language network to travel to [Maicao](/source/Maicao), Colombia and cover the [UNHCR](/source/UNHCR) assistance camp set up to help refugees fleeing the political crisis in Venezuela.[26]

### NBC News (2020-present)

Barber joined NBC News as a New York-based correspondent on April 15, 2020.[27]

She extensively reported on the [2019-20 coronavirus pandemic](/source/COVID-19_pandemic) [in the United States](/source/COVID-19_pandemic_in_the_United_States).[28][29][30][31] She reported inside COVID ICUs across the country, filing reports from Alaska[32] to Mississippi.[33][34]

Much of her career at NBC has been spent as a [war correspondent](/source/War_correspondent) covering conflicts around the globe.[35][36][37] She reported from the frontlines of the [Ukraine-Russia War](/source/Russo-Ukrainian_War)[38][39][40] and the [Gaza war](/source/Gaza_war).[41][35][36] While reporting along the [Gaza](/source/Gaza_Strip) border, she and her team came under rocket fire during multiple live reports.[6][42]

Barber reported from Haiti following the [2024 Haitian jailbreak](/source/2024_Haitian_jailbreak) and the ouster of then-Acting President [Ariel Henry](/source/Ariel_Henry).[43]

## Accolades

Barber was reporting outside of the United States Capitol as a mob [attacked and overtook the Capitol building](/source/2021_United_States_Capitol_attack).[44][45][46] She remained live on NBC News throughout the evening.[47] In 2022, she won a [News & Documentary Emmy Award](/source/43rd_News_and_Documentary_Emmy_Awards) for her reporting on the siege of the U.S. Capitol.[48]

In 2023, her [war reporting](/source/War_correspondent) earned her an Emmy nomination for [Outstanding Emerging Journalist](/source/44th_News_and_Documentary_Emmy_Awards).[49][50]
