'''Ellis Smith''' (4 November 1896 – 7 November 1969) was a British [Labour Party](/source/Labour_Party_(UK)) politician.  He was elected at the [1935 general election](/source/1935_United_Kingdom_general_election) as [Member of Parliament](/source/Member_of_Parliament_(United_Kingdom)) (MP) for [Stoke](/source/Stoke-on-Trent_Stoke_(UK_Parliament_constituency)) and served as [Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Trade](/source/Parliamentary_Secretary_to_the_Board_of_Trade) from 1945 to 1946. He was elected the first MP for the new [Stoke-on-Trent South](/source/Stoke-on-Trent_South_(UK_Parliament_constituency)) constituency when the seat was created in 1950, and served until his retirement in 1966.  His successor was [Jack Ashley](/source/Jack_Ashley%2C_Baron_Ashley_of_Stoke).
