**Elliot Marvin Wolff** (January 29, 1956 – June 7 or 25, 2016) was an American musician, songwriter, and [music producer](/source/Music_producer). Born in [Oklahoma](/source/Oklahoma), he was raised in [Silver Spring, Maryland](/source/Silver_Spring%2C_Maryland). His music catalog is represented by [Downtown Music Publishing](/source/Downtown_Music_Publishing).

## Career

Wolff was the musical director for [Peaches & Herb](/source/Peaches_%26_Herb) on tour from 1979 to 1982, traveling to Asia and Africa. He also toured with [Chaka Khan](/source/Chaka_Khan) as a [keyboard player](/source/Keyboard_player). Moving from the [Washington, DC](/source/Washington%2C_DC) area to [Los Angeles](/source/Los_Angeles), he became a staff writer for producer [Freddie Perren](/source/Freddie_Perren). He wrote [Johnny Gill](/source/Johnny_Gill)'s top ten hit "[Super Love](/source/Super_Love_(Johnny_Gill_song))" for Gill's self-titled 1983 album.

After hearing a demo for Wolff's "[Straight Up](/source/Straight_Up_(Paula_Abdul_song))", [Paula Abdul](/source/Paula_Abdul) recorded it and also Wolff's "[Cold Hearted](/source/Cold_Hearted_(Paula_Abdul_song))" for her album *[Forever Your Girl](/source/Forever_Your_Girl)*. Both songs charted at number one on *Billboard*.[1]

[Taylor Dayne](/source/Taylor_Dayne) recorded Wolff's song "[Heart of Stone](/source/Heart_of_Stone_(Taylor_Dayne_song))" for her second album *[Can't Fight Fate](/source/Can't_Fight_Fate)*.

## Death

He died at the age of 60 sometime between June 7 and June 25, 2016, while on a solo camping and hiking trip near [Pecos, New Mexico](/source/Pecos%2C_New_Mexico) in [Santa Fe National Forest](/source/Santa_Fe_National_Forest).[3] New Mexico state police had reported that he was last seen on June 7, 2016; they suspended ground and helicopter searches for him on June 12.[4] On June 25, a body was discovered in the forest; based on identification found, it was believed to be Wolff.[3]
