**Elliot Saltzman** [\[1\]](https://web.archive.org/web/20061220181630/http://www.bu.edu/sargent/about/faculty/physical-therapy/saltzman/)[\[2\]](http://www.haskins.yale.edu/staff/saltzman.html) [Archived](https://web.archive.org/web/20060906233225/http://www.haskins.yale.edu/STAFF/saltzman.html) 2006-09-06 at the Wayback Machine is an American [psychologist](/source/Psychologist) and speech scientist. He is a professor in the Department of Physical Therapy at [Boston University](/source/Boston_University) and a Senior Scientist at [Haskins Laboratories](/source/Haskins_Laboratories) in [New Haven, Connecticut](/source/New_Haven,_Connecticut). He is best known for his development, with [J. A. Scott Kelso](/source/J._A._Scott_Kelso) of "task dynamics [\[3\]](https://web.archive.org/web/20041215141051/http://www.essex.ac.uk/speech/pubs/presents/aut-96/aut-96.html)." He is also known for his contributions to the development of a gestural-computational model [\[4\]](http://www.haskins.yale.edu/research/gestural.html) [Archived](https://web.archive.org/web/20061208095105/http://www.haskins.yale.edu/research/gestural.html) 2006-12-08 at the Wayback Machine at [Haskins Laboratories](/source/Haskins_Laboratories) that combines task dynamics with [articulatory phonology](/source/Articulatory_phonology) and [articulatory synthesis](/source/Articulatory_synthesis). His research interests include application of theories and methods of [nonlinear dynamics](/source/Nonlinear_dynamics) and [complexity theory](/source/Complex_systems) to understanding the dynamical and biological bases of sensorimotor coordination and control. He is the co-founder, with [Philip Rubin](/source/Philip_Rubin), of the [IS group](/source/IS_group).

## Education

Elliot Saltzman received his A.B. in [psychology](/source/Psychology) from [Harvard University](/source/Harvard_University) in 1970 and his Ph.D. in [developmental psychology](/source/Developmental_psychology) from the [University of Minnesota](/source/University_of_Minnesota) in 1979.
