**Ella Beth Morris** (born 23 September 2002) is an English professional [footballer](/source/Association_football) who plays as a [defender](/source/Defender_(association_football)) for [Women's Super League](/source/Women's_Super_League) club [Tottenham Hotspur](/source/Tottenham_Hotspur_F.C._Women). She has previously represented England at [under-17](/source/England_women's_national_under-17_football_team), [under-19](/source/England_women's_national_under-19_football_team) and [under-23](/source/England_women's_national_under-23_football_team) levels.

## Early life

Morris began her youth career at the Hampshire Centre of Excellence aged 7, joined [Southampton](/source/Southampton_F.C._Women) at the age of 14,[4] and featured as part of the under-16 team in the Talent Pathway League.[5]

She attended [Barton Peveril Sixth Form College](/source/Barton_Peveril_Sixth_Form_College) in [Eastleigh](/source/Eastleigh), Hampshire.[6]

## Club career

Morris first featured for [Southampton](/source/Southampton_F.C._Women) in the [Southern Region Women's Football League](/source/Southern_Region_Women's_Football_League) 2018–19 season,[7] scoring 2 goals in 7 appearances for the Saints in their promotion winning season.[8][9]

In her second season with Southampton, [2019–20](/source/2019%E2%80%9320_FA_Women's_National_League#Division_One_South_West), Morris played in the [Women's National League](/source/FA_Women's_National_League) Division One South West. She was named Southampton Women's Player of the Season, after receiving the most fan votes, as well as Player's Player of the Season.[10] Saints manager [Marieanne Spacey-Cale](/source/Marieanne_Spacey) credited her crucial assists and two important goals in the season, having stepped up from the under-16s.[11]

On 5 January 2022, in the [2021–22 FA Cup](/source/2021%E2%80%9322_Women's_FA_Cup) fourth round at [St Mary's Stadium](/source/St_Mary's_Stadium), Morris scored the winning goal in extra time against [Women's Championship](/source/Women's_Championship) side [Bristol City](/source/Bristol_City_W.F.C.) for a 1–0 victory.[12][13] She ended the [2021–22 season](/source/2021%E2%80%9322_FA_Women's_National_League#Southern_Division) in the [National League South](/source/FA_Women's_National_League_South) with 4 goals in 22 appearances for the club,[14] as Southampton gained promotion to the Women's Championship for the first time in the club's history.[7]

On 28 August 2022, Morris helped the Saints come back from two goals down at half time against [Lewes](/source/Lewes_F.C._Women), scoring the first of two goals for a draw 2-2.[15] In May 2023, she was voted second in the Women's Championships Player of the Season award for [2022–23](/source/2022%E2%80%9323_Women's_Championship).[16]

On 27 August 2023, in the Saints opening game of the [2023–24 Championship](/source/2023%E2%80%9324_Women's_Championship) against Lewes, Morris scored within five minutes of appearing as a substitute in a 4–1 victory.[17][18]

On 10 December 2023, in the [2023–24 FA Cup](/source/2023%E2%80%9324_Women's_FA_Cup) third round, she created both goals in the 2–1 win over [Portsmouth](/source/Portsmouth_F.C._Women), providing a series of dangerous crosses leading to an own goal and an assist.[19]

In June 2024, Morris left Southampton upon the expiration of her contract.[20] On 16 July, she signed with [Women's Super League](/source/Women's_Super_League) club [Tottenham Hotspur](/source/Tottenham_Hotspur_F.C._Women) on a three-year contract.[21]

## International career

Morris has represented England in the U15, U16, [U17](/source/England_women's_national_under-17_football_team), U18, [U19](/source/England_women's_national_under-19_football_team) and [U23](/source/England_women's_national_under-23_football_team) youth teams.[4]

On 18 September 2018, she was named as part of the under-17 squad for [2019 U-17 Championship qualification](/source/2019_UEFA_Women's_Under-17_Championship_qualification),[22] making her debut as a 59th-minute substitute in a 7–0 win over [Azerbaijan](/source/Azerbaijan_women's_national_under-17_football_team) on 22 September.[23] In May 2019, Morris was named as part of the squad for the [final tournament](/source/2019_UEFA_Women's_Under-17_Championship),[24] playing the full 90 minutes as [right-back](/source/Right-back) against [Germany](/source/Germany_women's_national_under-17_football_team), [Austria](/source/Austria_women's_national_under-17_football_team) and the [Netherlands](/source/Netherlands_women's_national_under-17_football_team).[25]

In February 2023, she received her first call up to the under-23s for fixtures against Spain and Belgium.[26] On 25 September 2023, with England U23, Morris scored her debut youth international goal for England with a [volley](/source/Volley_(association_football)) for the final goal in a 3–0 victory over Belgium.[27][28]

On 4 December 2023, she scored the opening goal in the under-23s 1–1 draw against [Spain](/source/Spain_women's_national_under-23_football_team).[29][30]

Morris received her first call-up to the [England senior squad](/source/England_women's_national_football_team) on 13 May 2025 for the [UEFA Nations League](/source/2025_UEFA_Women's_Nations_League_A) fixtures against [Portugal](/source/Portugal_women's_national_football_team) and [Spain](/source/Spain_women's_national_football_team) later that month.[31] However, she was forced to withdraw from the squad on 28 May after suffering an [anterior cruciate ligament injury](/source/Anterior_cruciate_ligament_injury) in training.[32]

## Personal life

Morris's idols are [Ryan Bertrand](/source/Ryan_Bertrand), [Kyle Walker](/source/Kyle_Walker) and [Lucy Bronze](/source/Lucy_Bronze).[4] She looks up to former Saints midfielder [James Ward-Prowse](/source/James_Ward-Prowse) and has paid tribute by replicating his golf-swing goal celebration.[33]
