Canonical URL: https://mediated.wiki/source/Elizabeth_Lockman > Markdown URL: https://mediated.wiki/source/Elizabeth_Lockman.md > Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elizabeth_Lockman > Source revision: 1349867483 > License: Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/) **Sarah Elizabeth "Tizzy" Lockman** is an American politician and member of the [Democratic Party](/source/Democratic_Party_(United_States)).[1][2] She serves in the [Delaware Senate](/source/Delaware_Senate) representing [District 3](/source/Delaware's_3rd_Senate_district), which covers parts of [Wilmington](/source/Wilmington,_Delaware), including the downtown and Riverfront areas.[3] ## Early life and career Lockman was raised on the west side of [Wilmington, Delaware](/source/Wilmington,_Delaware) and graduated from [Alexis I. duPont High School](/source/Alexis_I._duPont_High_School).[4] She received a [B.A.](/source/Bachelor_of_Arts) from [New York University](/source/New_York_University) and a [M.A.](/source/Master_of_Arts) from the [University of Delaware](/source/University_of_Delaware).[2] She works as an adjunct professor at the University of Delaware.[2][5] ## Political career In 2014, Lockman was appointed a member of the Wilmington Education Advisory Committee (WEAC) by [Governor](/source/Governor_of_Delaware) [Jack Markell](/source/Jack_Markell), and she became vice chair when the body turned into the Wilmington Education Improvement Commission (WEIC).[5] Lockman defeated Jordan Hines, both political novices, in the Democratic primary, in a contentious and closely watched race.[3][6] With no general election opponent, the win ensured she would succeed [Robert Marshall](/source/Robert_I._Marshall), who had represented the area for over 40 years.[3] Lockman is the second [African-American](/source/African-American) woman to be elected to the Delaware Senate, after [Margaret Rose Henry](/source/Margaret_Rose_Henry), who retired the year before Lockman was elected.[7] In 2020, Lockman was elected as Senate Majority Whip.[8] ## Legislation In 2024, Lockman introduced legislation to require a permit to purchase handguns in the state of Delaware. The bill was signed into law on May 16, 2024.[9] ## Electoral history 2018: Lockman defeated Jordan Hines in the September 6, 2018, Democratic Primary with 2,143 votes (56.36%). She was unopposed in the General Election of the same year.[10][11] 2022: Lockman ran unopposed in the Democratic Primary and General Election of 2022.[12] 2024: Lockman ran unopposed in the Democratic Primary and General Election of 2024.[13] ## Personal life In December 2020, Lockman married John Collins.[14] ## References 1.
