==Life==
He was the son of Joseph Rhoades and Salome (Rust) Rhoades. He graduated from [Williams College](/source/Williams_College) in 1813. On March 4, 1818, he married Louisa Gardiner, a sister of Chief Judge [Addison Gardiner](/source/Addison_Gardiner) (1797–1883). They had no children, but adopted a daughter. He was Clerk of [Onondaga County](/source/Onondaga_County%2C_New_York) from 1838 to 1840.

He was a member of the [New York State Senate](/source/New_York_State_Senate) (7th D.) from 1841 to 1844, sitting in the [64th](/source/64th_New_York_State_Legislature), [65th](/source/65th_New_York_State_Legislature), [66th](/source/66th_New_York_State_Legislature) and [67th New York State Legislature](/source/67th_New_York_State_Legislature)s.

At the [New York state election, 1844](/source/New_York_state_election%2C_1844), he ran on the [Whig](/source/Whig_Party_(United_States)) ticket for one of four vacancies as  [Canal Commissioner](/source/Erie_Canal_Commission), but was defeated by the Democratic candidates. He was a delegate to the [New York State Constitutional Convention](/source/New_York_State_Constitutional_Convention) of 1846.
