His father was a barber and his mother was a maid. He graduated with a teaching degree from [Antigua State College](/source/Antigua_State_College) and taught for twenty years in Liberta, [John Hughes](/source/John_Hughes,_Antigua_and_Barbuda), [Sea View Farm](/source/Sea_View_Farm), and [Cobbs Cross](/source/Cobbs_Cross). He attended the [Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts](/source/Edna_Manley_College_of_the_Visual_and_Performing_Arts) and wrote 14 plays. He was a reporter for *The Daily Observer*.[1] ## Career In the [1994](/source/1994_Antiguan_general_election) and [1999 general elections](/source/1999_Antiguan_general_election) Adams ran as the nominee of the [United Progressive Party](/source/United_Progressive_Party) (UPP) in the [St. Paul](/source/St._Paul_(constituency)) constituency, but lost to [Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party](/source/Antigua_and_Barbuda_Labour_Party) (ABLP) nominee [Rodney Williams](/source/Rodney_Williams).[2] In the [2004 general election](/source/2004_Antiguan_general_election) Adams defeated Williams in the St. Paul constituency.[3] He defeated [Paul Chet Greene](/source/Paul_Chet_Greene), the nominee of the ABLP, in the [2009 general election](/source/2009_Antiguan_general_election).[4] Greene defeated him in the [2014 general election](/source/2014_Antiguan_general_election).[1] Adams ran to be leader of the UPP in 2015,[5] but was defeated by [Harold Lovell](/source/Harold_Lovell).[6] Adams Minister of State in the Ministry of Housing, Culture and Social Transformation with responsibility for Culture from 5 January 2005 to 31 December 2006, and the Minister of State in the Ministry of Tourism, Civil Aviation and Culture from 16 March 2009 to 12 June 2014.[1] In 2013, Adams sent an 89 member delegation to represent the country at the [Caribbean Festival of Arts](/source/Caribbean_Festival_of_Arts), which was criticised due to its large size.[7] Adams was a cricket and football player in his youth and managed the [Antigua and Barbuda national football team](/source/Antigua_and_Barbuda_national_football_team).[1] ## Personal life Adams is the father of seven children.[1] ## References 1.
