# Eleanor Murray

**Eleanor (Ellie) Jane Murray** is a British-Canadian [epidemiologist](/source/Epidemiology), [science communicator](/source/Science_communication), and assistant professor at the [Boston University School of Public Health](/source/Boston_University_School_of_Public_Health). Throughout the [COVID-19 pandemic](/source/COVID-19_pandemic), Murray created a series of multi-lingual, accessible infographics to communicate information about COVID-19.

## Early life and education

Murray earned a bachelor's degree in [biology](/source/Biology) from [McGill University](/source/McGill_University). She later earned a [master's degree in public health](/source/Master_of_Public_Health) from [Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health](/source/Columbia_University_Mailman_School_of_Public_Health) and conducted graduate research at [Harvard University](/source/Harvard_University). She has also earned a ScD in epidemiology, an MSc in biostatistics and, in 2016, earned a doctorate of science from [Harvard University](/source/Harvard_University). Murray studied the use of [agent-based models](/source/Agent-based_model) in clinical decision making.[1][2] Her research considered [causal inference](/source/Causal_inference) as a means to improve evidence-based decision making in clinical medicine.[3]

## Research and career

In 2019, Murray became an assistant professor at Boston University, where she conducts research on a variety of medical conditions, including [HIV](/source/HIV), [cancer](/source/Cancer) and [cardiovascular disease](/source/Cardiovascular_disease).[4] Murray became known for her use of [social media](/source/Social_media), where she shares complex epidemiological concepts using [Twitter](/source/Twitter) threads and [GIFs](/source/GIF).[5]
