# El Doctor

**El Doctor** is a series of mountain peaks north of the [Pachuca Range](/source/Pachuca_Range) of the [Sierra Madre Oriental](/source/Sierra_Madre_Oriental) in the states of [Querétaro](/source/Quer%C3%A9taro) and [Hidalgo](/source/Hidalgo_(state)), [Mexico](/source/Mexico). It includes an [escarpment](/source/Escarpment) formed by the El Doctor Platform which is a thick series of [Cretaceous](/source/Cretaceous) carbonate formations, including the [El Doctor Formation](/source/El_Doctor_Formation).[1][2] The peaks rise above 3100 meters.[3]

In 1557, the [Spanish](/source/Spanish_Empire) discovered [silver](/source/Silver) deposits in the El Doctor mountains.[4]
