**Eiji Matsuda** (松田英二, *Matsuda Eiji*) (1894–1978) was a [Mexican](/source/Japanese_Mexicans) [botanist](/source/Botanist) of Japanese origin. In scholarly works, his name is generally [romanised](/source/Romanization) as "**Eizi Matuda**" following the ["Kunrei" system](/source/Kunrei-shiki).

## Personal life

Matuda and his wife, Miduho Kaneko de Matuda, were naturalized Mexican citizens and had five children.[1]

## Legacy

In 1956, a [cactus](/source/Cactus) species native to Mexico was named in his honor, the *[Mammillaria matudae](/source/Mammillaria_matudae)*. The genus *[Matudina](/source/Matudina)* in the [sunflower family](/source/Asteraceae) is also named in his honor.[2]

Two species and one subspecies of reptiles are named in his honor: *[Abronia matudai](/source/Abronia_matudai)* (Matuda's arboreal alligator lizard), *[Anolis matudai](/source/Anolis_matudai)* (Matuda's anole), and *[Pseudelaphe flavirufa matudai](/source/Yellow-red_rat_snake)* (Matuda's ratsnake).[3] Two frogs are named after him: *[Craugastor matudai](/source/Craugastor_matudai)* (Matuda's robber frog) and *[Plectrohyla matudai](/source/Plectrohyla_matudai)* (Matuda's spikethumb frog).[4]
