'''Eio Books''' was an American-based small press [publishing house](/source/publishing_house) founded in 2004 in the city of [Brattleboro, Vermont](/source/Brattleboro%2C_Vermont). In 2011, it opened a second office in [Ross, California](/source/Ross%2C_California). Begun by Sydney Longfellow and [Ki Longfellow](/source/Ki_Longfellow), it is primarily known for the 2005 publication of Longfellow's novel, ''[The Secret Magdalene](/source/The_Secret_Magdalene)'', an exploration of the mystery of [gnosis](/source/gnosis) told through an interpretation of the life of [Mary Magdalene](/source/Mary_Magdalene).<ref>{{cite web|url=http://www.thesecretmagdalene.com/|title=The Secret Magdalene|website=www.thesecretmagdalene.com}}</ref>

Eio Books established itself through the success of its first publication. Ki Longfellow is the author of a number of books published by [HarperCollins](/source/HarperCollins) and [Doubleday](/source/Doubleday_(publisher)). The first in her Eio Books published trilogy of [gnosis](/source/gnosis), ''[The Secret Magdalene](/source/The_Secret_Magdalene)'' enjoyed instant acclaim and was then purchased and republished by [Crown Publishing Group](/source/Crown_Publishing_Group), the historical division of [Random House](/source/Random_House). It has also been optioned by [Nancy Savoca](/source/Nancy_Savoca) for a feature film now in active preproduction.<ref>{{cite web|url=https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001700/bio|title=Nancy Savoca|website=IMDb}}</ref>

Eio Books has also published the second in Longfellow's trilogy: ''Flow Down Like Silver: [Hypatia of Alexandria](/source/Hypatia_of_Alexandria)'' (2009),<ref>{{cite web|url=http://flowdownlikesilver.com/ |title=Flow Down Like Silver: Hypatia of Alexandria |website=flowdownlikesilver.com}}</ref> and in February 2011, it offered [Twinka Thiebaud](/source/Twinka_Thiebaud)’s<ref>{{cite web|url=http://eiobooks.com/twinka/|title=Eio Books -- Twinka|website=eiobooks.com}}</ref> intimate memoir of [Henry Miller](/source/Henry_Miller) and his table talk, ''What Doncha Know? about Henry Miller''. This book contains not only Thiebaud's musings on her years of living with an aging Miller, but dozens of Miller's own personal tales about his life and times.<ref>{{cite book|title=What DONCHA KNOW? about HENRY MILLER|first=Twinka|last=Thiebaud|date=24 January 2011|publisher=Eio Books|isbn=978-0975925522 }}</ref>

In May, 2011, Eio Books produced its first book of fantasy and psychological horror: ''Houdini Heart''.<ref>{{cite book|title=Houdini Heart|first=Ki|last=Longfellow|date=25 April 2011|publisher=Eio Books|isbn=978-0975925515 }}</ref> It was considered for the [Bram Stoker Award](/source/Bram_Stoker_Award) for Best Novel.

Early in 2012, Eio reprinted Ki Longfellow's first published novel, ''China Blues'' (published under the name Pamela Longfellow): ([HarperCollins](/source/HarperCollins) ([UK](/source/Great_Britain)), [Doubleday](/source/Doubleday_(publisher)) ([US](/source/United_States)), as well as eight foreign language printings. In 1989 ''China Blues'' was the subject of a bidding war between a number of major publishers.<ref>{{cite book|title=China Blues|first=Ki|last=Longfellow|date=24 January 2012|publisher=Eio Books|isbn=978-0975925577 }}</ref>

Recently, the small publishing house added a new name to its roster of writers: James C. McKay, a highly placed [litigator](/source/litigator) who served as the special prosecutor investigating the part of [Edwin Meese III](/source/Edwin_Meese_III) in the [Wedtech scandal](/source/Wedtech_scandal). At the time, Meese was Attorney General under the [Reagan](/source/Ronald_Reagan) Administration.<ref>{{cite web|url=http://eiobooks.com/mckay/|title=Eio Books -- James C. McKay -- Author|website=eiobooks.com}}</ref> McKay's two books, one a memoir and one a thriller set in and around the [Food and Drug Administration](/source/Food_and_Drug_Administration) are being prepared for publication. The semi-autobiographical ''Billy's War'' was published in April 2013.

Also in early April 2013, Longfellow's first three titles in a series of murder mysteries in the [hardboiled](/source/hardboiled) noir tradition<ref>{{cite web|url=http://eiobooks.com/samrusso|title=Sam Russo Mysteries|website=eiobooks.com}}</ref> featuring Sam Russo, 1940s [Staten Island](/source/Staten_Island), New York [Private Eye](/source/Private_investigator), saw print. In 2015, the fourth Sam Russo, ''Dead on the Rocks'', was published.

On January 26, 2018, Ki finished a nine-year project, writing the book she'd promised her husband [Vivian Stanshall](/source/Vivian_Stanshall) she would write for him. ''The Illustrated Vivian Stanshall, a Fairytale of Grimm Art'' is part biography, part memoir and a large part Art Book.<ref>{{cite web|url=http://www.theillustratedvivianstanshall.com/buy.php/tag/tag/ki-longfellow/|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20180131023323/http://www.theillustratedvivianstanshall.com/buy.php/tag/tag/ki-longfellow/|url-status=usurped|archive-date=January 31, 2018|title=The Illustrated Vivian Stanshall|website=www.theillustratedvivianstanshall.com}}</ref> Around March 2022, the Eiobooks.com website was quietly shut down with no redirect put in its place.
