The **Egyptian Front** ([Arabic](/source/Arabic_language): الجبهة المصرية, [romanized](/source/Romanization_of_Arabic): *al-Gabha al-Masreya*) was an alliance of political parties which contested the [2015 Egyptian parliamentary election](/source/2015_Egyptian_parliamentary_election) in a joint list with the [Independent Current Coalition](/source/Independent_Current_Coalition), called [Egypt](/source/Egypt_(electoral_coalition)).

## History

The alliance was established on 17 August 2014 by the following parties: [Congress Party](/source/Egyptian_Congress_Party), [El-Ghad Party](/source/El-Ghad_Party), [Tagammu Party](/source/National_Progressive_Unionist_Rally_Party), [Modern Egypt Party](/source/Modern_Egypt_Party), [My Homeland Egypt Party](/source/My_Homeland_Egypt_Party), [Democratic Generation Party](/source/Democratic_Generation_Party), [Republican People’s Party](/source/Republican_People's_Party_(Egypt)), and the [Egyptian National Movement](/source/Egyptian_National_Movement).[3] Former presidential candidate [Hamdeen Sabahi](/source/Hamdeen_Sabahi) criticized the alliance by stating that it represents "Mubarak-era politics".[4] The alliance was described after its formation as being made up of "diehards of the former regime of [Hosni Mubarak](/source/Hosni_Mubarak)'s .... [National Democratic Party](/source/National_Democratic_Party_(Egypt))."[5]

The Egyptian Front planned to coordinate with the [National Alliance](/source/National_Alliance_(Egypt)) list that was led by [Kamal Ganzouri](/source/Kamal_Ganzouri),[6] though the National Alliance withdrew from the race in February 2015.[7]

The Tagammu Party, Congress Party and El-Ghad Party all withdrew from the alliance in December 2014.[8]

A rival list, [For the Love of Egypt](/source/For_the_Love_of_Egypt), was established in February 2015,[9] while the [Modern Egypt Party](/source/Modern_Egypt_Party) withdrew from the coalition in May 2015.[10]

The [Egyptian Patriotic Movement](/source/Egyptian_Patriotic_Movement)[11] and the [My Homeland Egypt Party](/source/My_Homeland_Egypt_Party) left the alliance and joined the For the Love of Egypt coalition[12] following a failed attempt to merge the For the Love of Egypt coalition and the Egyptian Front.[13] They left For the Love of Egypt in September[14] and joined the [Egypt](/source/Egypt_(electoral_coalition)) alliance,[2] which was formed between the Egyptian Front and the [Independent Current Coalition](/source/Independent_Current_Coalition).[15]
