The **Egyptian Freedom Party** ([Arabic](/source/Arabic_language): حزب الحرية المصري, [romanized](/source/Romanization_of_Arabic): *Hizb al-Horreya*) is an Egyptian [political party](/source/Political_party).

## History

It was founded on 17 July 2011 and consists of remnants of the formerly dominant [National Democratic Party](/source/National_Democratic_Party_(Egypt)), which was dissolved following the [2011 Egyptian revolution](/source/2011_Egyptian_revolution). The party's chairman is [Mamdouh Hassan](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Mamdouh_Hassan&action=edit&redlink=1), its secretary general was his brother [Moatz Hassan](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Moatz_Hassan&action=edit&redlink=1).[1]

Many former NDP MPs joined this party. In the [elections](/source/2011%E2%80%9312_Egyptian_parliamentary_election) for the [People's Assembly](/source/People's_Assembly_(Egypt)) from November 2011 through January 2012, the Freedom Party won 1.9% of the popular vote and five out of 498 elected seats. The party also gained votes from the Coptic Christian community by placing [Copts](/source/Copts) on the top of their electoral lists.[2]

The party joined the [National Unified List for Egypt](/source/National_Unified_List_for_Egypt) for the [2020 Egyptian parliamentary election](/source/2020_Egyptian_parliamentary_election)[3] and the [2025 Egyptian parliamentary election](/source/2025_Egyptian_parliamentary_election).[4]
