'''Egg Hunt''' was a one-off band/project of longtime friends and musicians [Ian MacKaye](/source/Ian_MacKaye) and [Jeff Nelson](/source/Jeff_Nelson_(musician)), former singer and drummer, respectively, of the [hardcore punk](/source/hardcore_punk) band [Minor Threat](/source/Minor_Threat). Egg Hunt's only release, a self-titled 7-inch, was, according to retrospective review by Ron DePasquale, an example of "experimental, [post-hardcore](/source/post-hardcore)" music.<ref>{{cite web |url=http://www.allmusic.com/artist/egg-hunt-p290119/biography |title=Egg Hunt - Biography |author=DePasquale, Ron |work=[Allmusic](/source/Allmusic) |accessdate=March 20, 2011}}</ref> "We All Fall Down," appearing on the second side, was originally written by MacKaye for his earlier band, [Embrace](/source/Embrace_(U.S._band)), but it was rejected by other band members.<ref>{{cite web |title=Dischord Records: Egg Hunt |url=https://dischord.com/band/egg-hunt |website=Dischord Records |access-date=26 September 2024}}</ref> Although seemingly a small release in comparison to Dischord's significant catalog, this record is still a notable example of MacKaye and Nelson's songwriting abilities, as well as their chemistry together as artists.

MacKaye and Nelson tried turning Egg Hunt into an actual band after returning to Washington, DC.<ref>{{cite web |title=Dischord Records: Egg Hunt |url=https://dischord.com/band/egg-hunt |website=Dischord Records |access-date=26 September 2024}}</ref> They recruited former [Gray Matter](/source/Gray_Matter_(band)) members [Steve Niles](/source/Steve_Niles) and Geoff Turner, but MacKaye's energy and creativity were soon directed toward the forming of [Fugazi](/source/Fugazi), while Nelson, Turner, Niles, and former [Gray Matter](/source/Gray_Matter_(band)) guitarist Mark Haggerty started the [Dischord](/source/Dischord) band, [Three](/source/Three_(band)).
