**Edwin de Leon Olivarez** (born August 14, 1963) is a Filipino politician, athlete, and businessman who served as a Member of the [Philippine House of Representatives](/source/Philippine_House_of_Representatives) from [Parañaque](/source/Para%C3%B1aque)'s [1st District](/source/Para%C3%B1aque's_1st_congressional_district) from 2022 to 2025 and previously from 2010 to 2013. He previously served as Mayor of [Parañaque](/source/Para%C3%B1aque) from 2013 to 2022,[1][2] as well as the [Metro Manila Council](/source/Metro_Manila_Council) Chair and head of the Regional Peace and Order Council – [National Capital Region](/source/Metro_Manila) in concurrent capacity.[3] He also served as [board member of Laguna](/source/Laguna_Provincial_Board) before serving as Vice Governor of [Laguna](/source/Laguna_(province)) from 2004 to 2007. He unsuccessfully ran for [Governor of Laguna](/source/Governor_of_Laguna) in 2007.[4]

Olivarez played on the national tennis team, and was [NCAA](/source/National_Collegiate_Athletic_Association_(Philippines)) Junior and Senior Tennis Champion.[5][6]

## Early life

Born in [Manila](/source/Manila), Olivarez is the son of former mayor Pablo Olivarez and older brother of incumbent [Parañaque 1st district](/source/Para%C3%B1aque's_1st_congressional_district) representative [Eric Olivarez](/source/Eric_Olivarez).[*[citation needed](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citation_needed)*]

## Political career

Olivarez served one term each as [Laguna Provincial Board](/source/Laguna_Provincial_Board) member from the 1st district from 2001 to 2004 and as Vice Governor of Laguna under Governor [Teresita Lazaro](/source/Teresita_S._Lazaro) from 2004 to 2007. He ran for [Governor of Laguna](/source/Governor_of_Laguna) under [United Opposition](/source/United_Opposition_(Philippines)) in [2007](/source/2007_Laguna_local_elections), but lost to Lazaro. He later transferred to [Parañaque](/source/Para%C3%B1aque), where he was elected representative of the city's 1st district in 2010, serving until 2013.[*[citation needed](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citation_needed)*]

In the [2013 Parañaque local elections](/source/2013_Para%C3%B1aque_local_elections), he ran under the tagline *Ang Bagong Parañaque*, 'the new Parañaque', receiving criticism from netizens for his "badly written graduation message" March of that year.[7]

During his third term, he concurrently served as the [Metro Manila Council](/source/Metro_Manila_Council) Chair and head of the Regional Peace and Order Council – [National Capital Region](/source/Metro_Manila).[3]

### House of Representatives (2022–2025)

Upon being term-limited, Olivarez was once again elected representative of the 1st district in 2022, switching places with his brother [Eric Olivarez](/source/Eric_Olivarez).[*[citation needed](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citation_needed)*]

In November 2023, Olivarez left [PDP-Laban](/source/Partido_Demokratiko_Pilipino) to join the [Lakas–CMD](/source/Lakas%E2%80%93CMD) party.[8]

On February 5, 2025, Olivarez was among the 95 Lakas–CMD members who voted to [impeach](/source/First_impeachment_of_Sara_Duterte) [vice president](/source/Vice_President_of_the_Philippines) [Sara Duterte](/source/Sara_Duterte).[9][10]

## Personal life

Olivarez is married to Janet Angeles and they have three children.[5] His eldest son, Pablo II, is an incumbent councilor of Parañaque from the 1st district since 2022.[11][12]
