# Edwin Gebauer

**Edwin Gebauer** (born 16 June 1884 in [Borna](/source/Borna,_Leipzig) - 1967, [Potsdam](/source/Potsdam)) was a German politician and member of the [Nazi Party](/source/Nazi_Party).

From a rural background, Gebauer worked on the family poultry farm and at their forge before serving in the [First World War](/source/First_World_War) with the Fuß-Artillerie-Regiment Nr. 12. He was awarded the [Iron Cross](/source/Iron_Cross) Second Class and the Friedrich-August-Medal for his war service.[1]

Gebauer became involved in rightist politics in 1924 and joined the Nazi Party at an unknown date.[1] He became a leader in the *[Sturmabteilung](/source/Sturmabteilung)* in 1926, achieving the rank of SA-*[Sturmbannführer](/source/Sturmbannf%C3%BChrer)* in 1931 and SA-*[Standartenführer](/source/Standartenf%C3%BChrer)* in 1937.[1]

In the [July 1932 election](/source/July_1932_German_federal_election) to the *[Reichstag](/source/Reichstag_(Weimar_Republic))*, Gebauer was elected to serve as a member for electoral constituency 3 ([Potsdam II](/source/Potsdam_II_(electoral_district))) representing the Nazis.[2] He was not re-elected in [November 1932](/source/November_1932_German_federal_election) when the Nazis suffered a sizeable decline in their vote.
