**Edwin Howard Bennett** (21 December 1893 – 9 July 1929) was an English [cricketer](/source/Cricket), who played four [first-class](/source/First-class_cricket) matches. He was born in [Shifnal](/source/Shifnal), [Shropshire](/source/Shropshire), and he died at the age of 35 in [East Worthing](/source/East_Worthing), [Sussex](/source/Sussex).

Three of Bennett's games were for [Worcestershire](/source/Worcestershire_County_Cricket_Club) in 1925, while the other came for the [Civil Service](/source/Civil_Service_cricket_team) (playing their only first-class match) in 1927. In the latter game against the touring [New Zealanders](/source/New_Zealand_national_cricket_team), themselves making their first tour of England, he made 73 and 60 (by some distance the highest scores of his career).[1] He brought off only one catch in first-class cricket, to dismiss [Bob Wyatt](/source/Bob_Wyatt) in the [derby](/source/List_of_sports_rivalries) against [Warwickshire](/source/Warwickshire_County_Cricket_Club).[2]

Before his brief first-class career, Bennett played a number of games in the [Minor Counties Championship](/source/Minor_Counties_Cricket_Championship) for [Staffordshire](/source/Staffordshire_County_Cricket_Club); he scored 97 for them against [Kent](/source/Kent_County_Cricket_Club) Second XI in 1921.[3] He also played [club cricket](/source/Club_cricket) for [Wolverhampton](/source/Wolverhampton), and in a single-innings game against [Shrewsbury School](/source/Shrewsbury_School) in 1922 hit 146 opening the batting; the match was eventually drawn with Shrewsbury nine wickets down.[4]
