It was named by the [UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee](/source/UK_Antarctic_Place-Names_Committee) for [Christopher W. Edwards](/source/Christopher_W._Edwards), a [British Antarctic Survey](/source/British_Antarctic_Survey) geologist at [Stonington Island](/source/Stonington_Island), 1973–75, who mapped this area.<ref name=gnis/>
