# Edward Trusted Bennett

**Edward Trusted Bennett** (1 July 1831 – 16 November 1908), best known as **Edward T. Bennett**, was a British [botanist](/source/Botanist) and [psychical researcher](/source/Parapsychology).

## Biography

Bennett was born in [London](/source/London). His younger brother was the botanist [Alfred William Bennett](/source/Alfred_William_Bennett). As a young man he collected plant specimens in [Cornwall](/source/Cornwall) and the [New Forest](/source/New_Forest).[1][2] Bennett was the last [Quaker](/source/Quakers) in Britain to be disowned for holding different theological opinions. In 1873, he was disowned for supporting the heretical views of [Charles Voysey](/source/Charles_Voysey_(theist)).[3][4]

He was a member of the [British National Association of Spiritualists](/source/British_National_Association_of_Spiritualists) and the first secretary of the [Society for Psychical Research](/source/Society_for_Psychical_Research).[5] From 1882 to 1902 he worked as an assistant secretary for the Society.[6]

He died in [Port Isaac](/source/Port_Isaac), Cornwall.
